Last September 2019, Alem School was operating their first four weeks bootcamp - “The Pool”, in the brand new school located in AstanaHub.

Based on the observation that Kazakhstan is lacking developers, the non-profit educational investment fund Umit Fund, reached out to 01 Edu System and invested 2 million US dollars to open the project Alem. The ambition of the project is to train 1 000 Talents within the next five years.

The training is free and accessible to everyone from 18 to 35 years old. The duration of the curriculum is two years. The only barrier is a one month, intense selection program of “The Pool”. The school stays open day and night, 24/7 to let the students work at their own rhythm, the average work day being from 10 to 12 hours of practice.

No teachers, no classes, peer-to-peer learning based.

The school implemented the pedagogy designed and elaborated by Nicolas Sadirac for the last 25 years. This pedagogy develops technical skills, critical thinking, collective intelligence and collaboration skills, autonomy and problem solving minds. This approach allows the students-participants to release all their collective creativity in a project-based curriculum.

“The strength of the collective is multiple in nature: the group brings out richer solutions than any of the individuals making it up could imagine. But it is also a very solid driving force that allows each individual to make corps with a superior whole that surpasses him and thus gives him the power to sublimate himself.”

The President of Kazakhstan was acquainted with the training program of Alem School. During the conversation with the students, the international demand and relevance of IT emerged.

“The task of Kazakhstan is to keep up with global trends. The most important thing is to move in line. Otherwise we might be thrown away the world development. We need to teach young people all these skills in order to involve them into this sphere. We have very capable young people who seek to gain knowledge,” President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was told by the students how to learn coding without teachers, classes and other elements of traditional education.
